Dengue Fever, Zika Virus and Chikungunya can be combated!

Prevention methods

  • Keep water tank closed;
  • Put sand on flowerpots;
  • Tires and bottles must be put in covered places;
  • Don’t accumulate water in any place, especially on slab and gutter;
  • Put screen down the drain to avoid the access of the mosquito to the water.

Ways to protect

  • Put screen on windows and doors;
  • Use long clothes and repellent in exposed areas;

 

What are the symptoms of Dengue Fever, Zika Virus and Chikungunya?

Dengue Fever:

It can be asymptomatic, light or very serious and may lead to death. Generally, the first manifestation is a high fever (39º/40º), from an abrupt beginning, during from 2 to 7 days, accompanied by headache, body and joint pain, weakness, prostration, pain behind the eyes and itchy skin.

Weight loss, nauseas and vomit are common. The strongest symptoms are continuous abdominal pain, mucosal bleedings and vomits.

 

Zika Virus:

About 80% of infected people by Zika don’t develop clinical manifestation. The main symptoms are headache, low fever, joint pain, red spots on the skin, itch and and eyes redness. Other symptoms less frequents are swelling, sore throat, cough and vomit. Symptoms may disappear after 3 to 7 days, but joint pain can remain for one month.

 

Chikungunya:

The main symptoms are high fever, severe joint pain (hands, feet, fingers, ankle and pulse). It can occurs headache, muscle pain and red spots on the skin. It’s not possible to contract Chikungunya more than one time. After infected, the person stays immune for the rest of her life. Symptoms begin between 2 and 10 days after mosquito’s bite. The mosquito acquires the virus CHIKV when it bites an infected person, during the period that organism is infected.
